Privacy Policy

NextReel ("NextReel," "we," "us," or "our") operates the website nextreel.tv and related mobile applications (together, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

1. Information we collect

Account and profile information

  • Email address, password (stored as a secure hash), and optional display name when you sign up.
  • Profile details you create (profile name, adult/kid profile type, kid maturity settings, avatar choices).
  • Session and authentication data (cookies on web; secure tokens on mobile).

Your activity in the Service

  • Watchlist, watched history, favorites, and "not interested" signals.
  • TV episode watch progress and related notification preferences.
  • Favorite cast/crew (people) you save.
  • Streaming service preferences used to filter recommendations and availability.
  • Messages and context you send to ReelChat (our AI assistant).
  • Feedback you submit, including optional contact email, page URL, and browser/app user agent.

Device and notifications

  • Mobile push notification tokens (via Expo) when you enable notifications, plus your notification settings.
  • Basic device/app information needed to deliver push alerts and keep the app working.

Analytics

We use privacy-oriented analytics tools (such as Vercel Analytics, Google Analytics, or PostHog) to understand usage in aggregate. Where required, we will honor applicable consent requirements before loading non-essential analytics on web.

Information we do not intentionally collect

We do not require your real name, phone number, or payment information to use the free Service. Do not send sensitive personal information through ReelChat or feedback forms.

2. How we use information

  • Provide and personalize the Service (recommendations, lists, availability, profiles).
  • Operate ReelChat and return title suggestions based on your messages and preferences.
  • Send transactional email (welcome, password reset) and optional notification emails or push alerts.
  • Maintain security, prevent abuse, and troubleshoot issues.
  • Improve the Service through aggregated analytics and user feedback.
  • Comply with legal obligations.

3. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only as described below:

  • Service providers that help us run NextReel (hosting, database, email delivery, push notifications, analytics). They process data on our instructions.
  • AI provider (OpenAI) when you use ReelChat — your messages and relevant preference context are sent to generate responses.
  • Metadata providers (e.g., TMDB, OMDB) — we send title/person identifiers to fetch public movie and TV metadata, posters, ratings, and streaming availability. We do not send your account email to them.
  • Legal and safety — if required by law or to protect users, the Service, or the public.
  • Business transfers — if we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, subject to continued protection of your information.

4. Data retention

We keep your information while your account is active and as needed to provide the Service. When you delete your account (Settings → Delete account in the app, or contact us on web), we delete your user record and associated profile data from our primary database, subject to limited backup retention and legal requirements.

5. Your choices and rights

  • Access and update — manage account details and preferences in Settings; update watchlists and profiles in the app.
  • Delete account — available in the mobile app under Settings. Deletion is permanent for that login.
  • Notifications — control email and push notification preferences in Settings.
  • Analytics — you can use browser controls or opt-out tools offered by analytics providers where applicable.
  • Regional rights — depending on where you live (e.g., EEA, UK, California), you may have additional rights to access, delete, or object to certain processing. Contact us to exercise them.

6. Children

NextReel supports kid profiles with maturity filters under a parent or guardian's account. The Service is not directed to children under 13 to register on their own. If you believe a child has provided us personal information without appropriate consent, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

7. Security

We use industry-standard measures such as encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

8. International users

If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information may be processed in the United States and other countries where our providers operate, which may have different data protection laws than your home country.

9. Third-party links

The Service links to streaming providers, theaters, YouTube trailers, and other third-party sites. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies, not this one.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page and update the effective date. Continued use of the Service after changes means you accept the updated policy.
